Bets' & Peg's Adventures

Since 2007 promises to hold many different types of adventures, not just of the RV variety, I've decided to begin a new blog to share with you. Hopefully, being new, it will be faster to load, as well. Enjoy!

February 17, 2007

We say goodbye to our homes in San Marcos. But before we head out, we are treated to a lovely going away soiree at Judy and Randy's. It was so lovely of everyone to come with good wishes for our new adventure. Such a heartwarming send off.

We packed up both cars and Minerva (RV) to hit the road in less than ideal weather conditions. All our worldly goods were packed into two different moving vans that drove off with promises of meeting us in Colorado in one week's time. We were lucky enough to be stuck in Fort Stockton for two nights due to ice on the roads. I-10 was closed for a full day. That tells you something, eh? I took this photo outside our hotel in Ft. Stockton. Trucks were parked in every available spot waiting for the ice to melt enough to get back on the road.

Our moving vans did show up, thank you George & Nathanial. There was more than a little anxiety that they would both arrive at the same time or be able to at all given the weather and their other destinations. But they did and all went well.

We still have boxes stacked in the garage but that's understandable, right? Actually most are archive stuff and may never be unboxed, who knows. But all in the house was put to rights in about a week.

Driving on 160 with a view of mountains to the east. Mountains surround Pagosa Springs and it is a regular occurrence to oooh and aah when driving or walking around.

This is a view out one of our back windows. It's typically quite sunny here but this was an atypical cloudy morning, I think. We've since put up a bird feeder and have had a female woodpecker visit from time to time as well as magpies (those that I first called Panda Birds).

Bonnie is getting used to the lack of visible grass. She still searches for sprigs popping up through the snow so she knows where to do her business. She is very energetic when we go out and it's lovely walking in the snow especially at night when the stars are out and the moon is strong.

I had originally intended to find a new home for Slash so he could stay in San Marcos, in the warm climate. At the last minute I just couldn't leave him. As you can see, he has adapted well to becoming an indoor cat! I have offered him opportunities to venture outdoors but I think all the white stuff freaks him out. He sticks his head out, maybe a paw or two then ducks back in.

While driving around we came upon the annual Hatcher Lake perch ice fishing competition. Lots of folks out on the ice, most playing, eating and visiting. Quite a few fishing, I'm sure. We later learned that thousands of perch met their end that day! The winner caught over 400.

As you can see, Sassy is quite comfy in her normal spot, on the back of my chair.

I ventured out for my first snowshoe outing. I'm kneeling, on the right (white shirt, gray jacket). Yes, that's really me. Hard to tell in all the hats and coats. It was about 36 degrees then, I think, and I was quite warm. had to undo jacket, take off gloves, etc.! Great group of people. There are over 300 in the San Juan Outdoor Club!

Peg in her newly put-together study space. Mine is identical on the other side of the room. We were worried these units were too big. After getting all our stuff in them, we were worried they were too small!

A limited view of the living room looking toward's Peg's bedroom door. Don't have the antler chandelier up yet but the new TV's finally arrived. You can see Bonnie in one of her favorite dog biscuit eatin' spots.

Another view of the living room looking toward the dining room. We're loving our new house and can't wait to have visitors. Hint, hint.

For those of you who don't yet have our information, here it is:

I can't believe you guys are in Colorado. I just knew you'd be stuck for days or weeks, thanks to all the crazy weather!

Your new home is beautiful, and the view is fabulous!

You two are my role models - live life to the fullest, and enjoy the ride!

Love,
Susan "Mississippi" O'Bryan
