Bets' & Peg's Adventures

Since 2007 promises to hold many different types of adventures, not just of the RV variety, I've decided to begin a new blog to share with you. Hopefully, being new, it will be faster to load, as well. Enjoy!

March 25, 2006

I have been berated by unruly & unfulfilled readers of late. In the interest of self-preservation and your entertainment (?), I am throwing a few photos up to show what's been happenin' 'round Pagosa.

Do these pants make me look fat?

I was lucky enough to get some snowshoes as my Christmas promise and finally decided on which ones. They are Atlas 1225's for anybody that's interested. No one? Okay. Well, thought I'd share anyway. This outing was on the Fall Creek Rd. clearing off of 160 East - on the way to Wolf Creek Pass. We crossed a snowbridge over a creek. (This is when it's good to be a follower, not a leader!) We climbed some ridges, saw some peaks and slid down some declines. Great fun.
The folks that led this, David & Shirley, have a reputation for doing the more adventurous, sometimes more difficult outings. I found them to be great fun and plan to accompany them wherever they may venture!

I took advantage of a Cross Country (XC) ski clinic one Sunday morning at the ski area. The lovely folks from Alpenhaus taught me and a family of four from Dallas how to get the groove a goin'! Talk about working some leg muscles - HELLO! After the lesson, I took advantage of the free XC groomed trail to use what I had learned. About 3 miles. Yes, I was sore the next couple of days.

This is frozen-over Alberta Lake. The XC trail goes past this lovely spot. Can't wait to see it in the summer, as well.

Tom, Susan, & Landon visited us for a few days of their Spring Break. Clayton's break was at a different time and, besides, he had college guy stuff to do with his buds, that is, if his massively swollen twisted ankle cooperated.

Most of our snow had melted in town but there was still plenty at the summit so we took advantage of it. We went on a snowmobile tour. This is me and my handsome nephew, Landon. We shared a 2-seater for awhile until Landon got to switch over to our leader's hot rod mobile. Then I got to drive ours and what fun! Yes, you can get airbound on a two-person mobile!

We took a break for alternative forms of entertainment. Lan, what are you fixin' to do there?

Where you been, Tom? (We won't talk about Tom's difficulty in climbing out of waist high snow or why he was walking where there was waist high snow.)

Susan taking a break and enjoying the scenery.

We also visited the hot springs but no photos were allowed on that outing. Oh, the springs folks didn't care. It was us girls that made that rule!!

Dear, darling, industrious Landon took care of some drainage issues for us. And, yes, Tom helped, too. Mom, Susan and I sat inside drinking coffee and supported them the whole time.

With the fast snow melt, we found we had some mud dams resulting in rather icky pools. Landon got things flowing to the drainage culverts so we could have some hope of drier dirt. That really makes a difference when I have to give Bonnie a foot bath every time she goes out and tries to come back in with ooey gooey paws!

Finally, with a Christmas gift card (thanks Doug & Laura), a member discount, and my REI annual dividend, I was finally able to rationalize (not justify) the purchase of a backpacking tent I've been coveting. We were expecting rain so I set it up to test it for water-tightness. I woke up to find our rain had turned to snow overnight!

In between mud-removal and family visits, Mom has been taking some beading workshops. As you can see, we must eat in our recliners because the dining table is now beading central.

I took a drawing workshop one Saturday and am now gung ho on that as well as trying out some acrylic painting so I have commandeered the game table! As you can see Bonnie is my next subject du jour. Below is the drawing I did in the workshop. It is supposed to be of our instructor's daughter. While I am proud of my effort, it doesn't really look anything like her. But you don't know her so who cares!

The next drawing I did you will recognize if you have been so fortunate or not to become acquainted with my pets. I'll admit it lacks that certain cattitude she has but I'm working on it.

So, that's what we've been up to. Now that Spring seems to been springing, more hikes and outdoor adventures are in store. We have several outings planned in Minerva in the upcoming months. I'll be heading down to Big Bend in a week to hang out with my gal pals from San Marcos and other TX T.O.W.N. groups. We're going to set up the tents, perhaps strap on the ole backpacks, and enjoy the April foliage. I'm very excited to see them all again.

Wade is coming for a visit the second week of April and we have all kinds of electronic issues for him to deal with while he's here. We might even get out for some fun in the sun and blue skies while he's here. We'll see how he comes along with our techno/electro issues! (Hah - kidding, Wade! kind of)

Hope this helps catch you up on our goings on. Please let us know what you are up to and what's new in your life. We love hearing from you. Oh, and if you have left comments and didn't get a reply from me, sorry. I didn't notice there were comments for quite some time. But we did read and enjoy them. Thank you. Ta for now.

Bets- Seems just so awesome. That place suits you. Hope all is as well as it appears. And, by the way, the God of the universe will not allow a human to draw evil incarnate, but good luck with that, 'kay? (your work IS good though) roy

I love the snow but I am anxious to see spring! Have fun in Big Bend. I am heading for the Llano river the end of April with four fly fishing ladies. It is pretty much an underfished area so we will have loads of fun. So happy for you! ll
